Freedom Has A Taste To It That The Protected Will Never Know
My main argument is this.
We try to have a fair, moral, compassionate society here....
I believe that if we are going to be who we say we are, it goes beyond Nationalism.
If I see a child being raped do I stop to think what the International or Domestic ramifications are before I act to prevent it?
Of course not.
If I see Innocents being lined up to be shot and dumped in some mass grave do I worry about what the French are going to think of my actions?
You see I want to be an American that just will not put up with that type of behavior from anyone....
It is a question of whether or not I am a man.

If your main argument, as outlined above, is a rationale for the invasion of Iraq I strongly disagree.
If it is the rationale for an individual's response to the evils which exist in the world I agree.
And if it is the rationale for a nation's response to the evils in the world I would agree if it was a war reflecting the represented will of the people in accordance with Constitutional provisions for declaring war (I understand the "rule of law" and am not declaring that Bush's actions were illegal, as discussed on many other threads).
On 30DEC04 I began a thread "The Other Wars Today" in the War topic area. Basically I outlined the 20+ other wars going on in the world today with atrocities equalling or exceeding those of Saddam in Iraq since our withdrawal of forces in 1991.
My inference from your comments is that the United States should take action against all the evildoers who are raping children and lining up people to be shot around the world.
I share your view that freedom of all kinds should be enjoyed by all citizens of the world.
I support individuals' and nation's attempts to alleviate and eliminate the obstacles to freedom around the world.
But when it comes to armed conflict with mighty weaponry which must necessarily kill and maim innocents I contend that the people of the nation initiating the military action be involved in the decision.
Let the President of the United States present to Congress his/her list of Axis of Evil countries, and let the representative process begin. Senators and Representatives can add to the President's list, and debate -- ultimately deciding "yea" or "nay" as to which countries to invade in order to make them free and democratic.

I just got back to this Blog of mine and I am going to spend more time on it from now on. I wonder after all that has happened here and over in Iraq, isd there anything you would like to edit here now that time has passed and truths are emerging?
